Our Story
We've always been a little concerned about the inadequate presence, or lack, of African languages and/or cultural depictions in both physical and digital mainstream spaces around the world. So we got together to think of a simple way to create a brand that addresses this.
Our mission is to reinforce the presence of—and interest in— African languages by bringing together contemporary mainstream design and our rich linguistic diversity through tangible, wearable and useable products.
Our Vision
We're a small group of professionals excited about proliferating a keen sense of Africanness, through physical products. While we cannot be abreast on the vast complexities of African languages and the culture attached to them, we heavily rely on community effort and things our customers would like to see in the products we put out.
Our vision is to create a community of people who value, and are just as excited about the presence of, African languages, in different spaces, as we are. You can always contact us with ideas on this or even yell at us a bit for veering in the wrong direction. This will definitely be a community effort!
Our Values
Just as much as we believe language should be accessible and not constricting, we also firmly believe the classification of clothing should do the same. This is why we categorize our products with Masculine and Feminine identifiers, instead of the gendered industry standard.
In our presentation of language through products, we're dedicated to trying to represent African languages in both fun and educational ways, in a manner that may be useful to native speakers and somewhat intriguing to non-native speakers.
A core part of our values rest on challenging undesirable status quo regarding how African languages are viewed and consumed. We are confident that our ripple will draw others to us, in community growth and inspiration of other ideas.
