Yaa is a feminine Akan day name for a child born on a Thursday.
- The Baoulé name, Aya, in deep brown, is actually given to a child born on a Friday. This is due to historical factors related to their separation from the Asante Empire.
- One of the Yaa variations(turquoise) is of the Ndyuka people in Suriname/French Guiana. The Ndyuka people were one of the first successful Maroon revolts of the 16th century.
- Yawa, Yaa and Awo also double up as Éʋe variants. Akan influence seeped into the naming systems of some neighbouring ethnic groups.
